Industrial Decarbonization Analysis, Benchmarking, and Action Partnership

Supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation, the Industrial Decarbonization Analysis, Benchmarking, and Action (INDABA) Partnership involves close collaboration between the Laboratory for Energy and Organizations at CMU and academic partners from four institutes: the Institute for Energy, Environment, and Economy at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China; the Institute of Energy Systems, Energy Efficiency and Energy Economics at the Technical University of Dortmund, Germany; Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research in Mannheim, Germany; and the Energy Systems Research Group, University of Cape Town, South Africa. The Partnership’s research characterizes opportunities to accelerate industrial decarbonization globally while recognizing and addressing its impacts on workers and communities. The Partnership also includes approximately 20 multi-sector, multi-stakeholder partners that augment the expertise base.

The major goals of the INDABA Partnership are (1) to illuminate drivers of industrial GHG emissions at the plant and process level in diverse global settings using advanced data science techniques and (2) to develop use-inspired approaches to evaluate plant- and region-specific options for deep decarbonization based on their technical, economic, and societal impact.
